Overview

The Ruaha Catholic University Centre of Innovation and Community Engagement (CICE) is a strategic institutional unit to promote innovation, applied research, community engagement, and knowledge co-production. The centre aims to strengthen the University’s contribution to Tanzania’s, East Africa’s, and the global community's transformation by (i) fostering University-Community-Industry-Government partnerships, (ii) developing locally relevant and impactful solutions, and (iii) capacity building to enhance the relevance of higher education towards positive social change among communities. The establishment of the centre aligns with the Ruaha Catholic University’s charter and strategic precedence, and, responds to the national, regional and global priorities, including: Tanzania Vision 2050, and Iringa Regional Priority Interventions, Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III), Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Policy (2021), Higher Education Policy (2014), East African Community Vision 2050, and Fourth Generation University (4GU) Call Agenda. The centre's main functions include coordination, facilitation, and serving as an innovation hub to support community services, applied research, and teaching by embedding Community-Based Learning (CBL) into curricula.
