RUCU SCIENCE PARK FOUNDATION STONE CEREMONY – AMBASSADOR OF ITALY PRESIDES

H.E. Ambassador Giuseppe Sean Coppola of Italy today officiated the historic laying of the foundation stone for Ruaha Catholic University’s (RUCU) new Science Park Building. The ceremony was graced by His Lordship Rt. Rev. Romanus Elamu Mihali, Bishop of the Diocese of Iringa, and The Vice Chancellor, Sr. Prof. Chrispina Lekule, alongside the RUCU community, marking a milestone in the University’s academic, scientific, and social mission.

The Science Park is envisioned as a transformative center for education, research, and healthcare. The ground floor will host a specialized polyclinic, serving both community health needs and providing practical training for students. The first and second floors will accommodate advanced laboratories for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Sciences, Environmental Health Sciences, and Clinical Medicine, supporting hands-on learning, applied research, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Lecture halls, academic offices, and a fully equipped auditorium on the upper floors will provide spaces for conferences, scientific dialogue, and international engagement.

This landmark project has been made possible through the generous support of Italian institutions, including the Bishops’ Conference of Italy, Caritas Antoniana, and the Tovini Foundation, who contributed over 70% of the funding. Ambassador Coppola’s support, particularly in facilitating academic exchanges and international collaborations, was also recognized during the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Sr. Prof. Chrispina Lekule emphasized that the Science Park represents more than a building—it is a vertical ecosystem of knowledge, service, and innovation, blending education, research, and community engagement. His Lordship Rt. Rev. Mihali provided spiritual guidance and blessings, underscoring the University’s faith-inspired mission of holistic education.

The laying of the foundation stone symbolizes RUCU’s commitment to advancing science, health, and sustainable development, and strengthens the enduring friendship and partnership between Italy and Tanzania. The Science Park is set to become a beacon of knowledge, international collaboration, and hope for future generations of scholars and healthcare professionals.
